President Steve Everton believes the rugby club is in a strong enough position not to face folding due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While the lack of revenue incoming at present is causing a problem for many sports clubs, Rasen & Louth are benefitting from previous work undertaken at the club.

“We are in a strong financial position and, although the lockdown has reduced our income from the bar, we have no fears that the club won’t be in existence and ready for the new season,” he said.

“Having professional people and business owners in key positions has meant that the club has been able to make significant investments over the years - for example solar panels, new floodlights, new junior pitches - whilst not losing sight of the need for a substantial buffer.

“We will continue to run along prudent lines as we come out of the present crisis.”

The Midlands East North Two season - along with all sport in the country was brought to an abrupt halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Rugby Football Union worked out final placings for all divisions, with the Red and Greens finishing fourth in their table, a position the club described as fair.

While action may be on hold for the forseeable future, there remains business to attend to.

“The absence of committee meetings and possibly the AGM, scheduled for June or July, may make things a little more difficult than usual,” added Mr Everton, who has been the club’s honourary treasurer for almost 30 years and has held the dual role of president for the past year.

“But e-mail and social media may be the answer.

“We have a mixture of officers in the club ranging from long servers like myself to new members like our honorary secretary, who is in his first year.

“However, the new members are committed to staying in post for the medium term and, with no ready replacements for some of us old stagers, our loyalty to the club keeps us carrying on.

“We therefore believe that we have a stable core to our committee and sub committees.”
