Runners don their shoes for first Sleaford 10K

The inaugural Sleaford Striders Summer 10km race took place on Friday with a full house of 150 participants – the entry limit for this year.

The race started from Scredington Community Centre in sunshine and followed a course through Lincolnshire via Burton Pedwardine and back to Scredington.

The youngest competitor was 16 and the oldest 75.

Race organiser Matt Lennard said: “The event went really well.

“We had runners from across Lincolnshire, the UK and overseas.”

The race was won in a time of 35 minutes 15 seconds by Sleaford Striders’ Alan Oliver after a tight battle with Ben Evison of Skegness Coasters who finished second in 35:31, with Andy Taylor of Sleaford Town Runners third in 36:19.

The ladies race was won by Jennifer McBain of Alchester Running Club, Bicester, in 40:05, 2nd Lady was Holly Durham (42:39) and Hannah Nolan was third (44:31).

The race finished with a variety of refreshments and a competition for best cake of the night was won by Strider Jim Millar with his chocolate and banana cake.

The 10k race was preceded by a 3km Family Fun Run.

The race was organised by Sleaford Striders and junior member Lillee-Ann Thorpe, and raised nearly £200 for Breast Cancer Care.

Fifty one runners took part in the race with many competitors running in pyjamas or onesies. The winner was Gordon Kerr with a time of 12 minutes and 39 seconds.
