Runners to pound local streets in 5k race

Runners from across the county are expected to pound local streets on Sunday, in the Gainsborough 5k.

The race, part of the West Lindsey Series along with the Saxilby and Market Rasen events, begins at 10am from West Lindsey Leisure Centre.

Online entry closed this week, but runners can still enter on the day.

The cost of entry will be £15, and runners should be older than 14.

Local athletes club the Gainsborough and Morton Striders are expected to be well respresented on the day.

Last year well over 200 runners, walkers and joggers took part, with finish times from 15 minutes to 50 minutes.

GB Wheelchair Sprints athlete Jamie Carter from Binbrook near Market Rasen won the Wheelchair Race with a time of 15.37m.

Pumlani Bangani from Salford Harriers was the fastest male with a time of 15.47m and Calli Thackery from Hallamshire Harriers was the fastest female with a time of 17.38m.
