Sibling rivalries are battled out on the court

Sunday was finals day in the club’s Chattertons Closed Championships, and both of the singles finals were contested between siblings.

For Henry it was the second time he had successfully defended his title, but this year it was his brother Dominic that stood in his way.

In a close match Henry came through this to beat his older brother.

Younger sister Ashleigh won the final against Danielle to take the ladies’ singles title.

All the singles finalists set aside their differences to join forces in the doubles, Danielle and Ashleigh winning the ladies’ doubles final against Charlotte Priestley and Victoria Beardsley.

The Beesley brothers won the men’s doubles final against Richard Cook and Will Mason.

In the men’s singles, Connall Newton beat Ryan Frankish in their section final.

The boys’ singles was won by Thomas Cozens, with William Cutforth the runner-up.

The boys’ section final saw Thomas Mecklenburgh defeat his twin brother Max.

Charlotte Priestley won the girls’ singles and Alice Gamman was the runner-up.

In mini tennis red, Ben Rudkin and Matilda Clark were the winners with Jacob Felipes and Yasmin Everitt runners-up. At orange level, James Gedney was the overall winner and James was also the boys’ winner, with Will Pettitt runner-up.

Jessica Dolata was the girls’ winner and Emily Stukins the runner-up.

The green event was won by Isabel Wookey and Lois Boothby second.

Mike Burnett and Alex Cobb took the seniors’ title for the third year and James Newton and Gary Fitzjohn were beaten finalists.

The ladies’ senior final was won by Linda Barrow and Rachel Gedney, who beat Claire Smith and Gilly Dunn in the final.
