Skelly scampers up hill first

The course was a standing start from near the railway bridge, the 541-yard course then ascended up the steep climb of Thonock Hill to finish near the Golf Club entrance.

Results: 1st Jordan Skelly 1 minute 04.5 seconds, 2nd Matt Hindmarsh 1 minute 20.9 seconds, 3rd Liam Hindmarsh 1 minute 22.2 seconds (juvenile), 4th Daniel Nicholson 1 minute 24.4 seconds, 5th Joe Smith 1minute 52.1 seconds (juvenile), 6th Trevor Halstead 1minute 52.4 seconds, 7th Colin Smith 2 minutes 15.1 seconds.

Jordan Skelly was fastest, winning the senior championship trophy, his time the fastest for a number of years.

Thirteen-year-old Liam Hindmarsh was fastest juvenile, achieving a personal best time.

Trevor Halstead and Matt Hindmarsh also achieved personal best times.

Credit goes to 16-year-old Joe Smith who rode his mountain bike up the hill in a stunning time.

Thanks to the timekeepers Hedley Stennett and Paul Reynolds also start marshal Dave Day.

The fine morning brought out many spectators to cheer the riders on.

　After the hill climb, cyclists enjoyed a 13-mile ride.

The event was part of Gainsborough’s October Fest.

The route was chosen from the Gainsborough Area Cycling Map and riders were Daniel Nicholson, Trevor Halstead, Matt Hindmarsh, Liam Hindmarsh (13), Dave Backhouse, Geoff Garner and Joe Smith( 16).

Barton Wheelers cycle Club member Hedley Stennett rode part of the ride before heading home to near Brigg.

Next week’s ride is on Sunday 14th October, to Lincolnshire CTC AGM at The Mason’s Arms Louth. Arrive at 10.30am. The meeting starts 11am prompt.

The ride departs from Roseway in Gainsborough at 7am prompt, and it will be a long hard ride over the wolds.
