Sleaford’s Balfre Motorsport deliver confident display at Snetterton

Balfe Motorsport displayed a confident performance in the penultimate round of the 2020 British GT Championship at Snetterton (3-4 October) in weekend-long wet conditions.

The #36 McLaren 720S GT3 of Stewart Proctor and Joe Osborne battled the treacherous elements to take two well-earnt fourth positions in Pro-Am. Balfe’s #21 McLaren 570S GT4 of Mia Flewitt and Euan Hankey took two GT4 Pro-Am victories, as well as an impressive fourth overall in GT4 in race two.

With rain forecast all weekend at the Norfolk circuit, Joe was the fastest McLaren in his GT3 Pro qualifying session. Meanwhile, in GT4, Mia matched the pace of the rapid young Silver drivers in her best qualifying session to-date.

The first 60-minute sprint race of the weekend began behind the Safety Car and bold driving through the spray where visibility proved to be minimal showed nerves of steel from all four drivers.

Just after the halfway mark, Euan overtook one competitor and then pressured another into making a mistake, leaving him free to hunt down fourth overall in category, but unfortunately he ran out of time before being able to make the pass.

In GT3, the team made radical set-up changes after struggling on Saturday. Joe clocked the fastest lap of a McLaren driver and capitalised on a good opening stint by Stewart and their result was a really good fourth place in Pro-Am.

Mia and Euan achieved another excellent result in the second 60-minute race. Euan made light work of the field in the opening stint and a quick pit stop from the crew meant that Mia was released into the field in first position. Racing for only her fourth time in the wet, she drove superbly despite not being able to hear the team on the radio. The result of their hard work was a fourth position overall in GT4 and another Pro-Am win, continuing their 100% victory streak.

Joe started the second race for the #36 and handed the reins over to Stewart who lapped the 2.97-mile circuit with his quickest times of the weekend. With the rain beginning to fall once more towards the end of the race, he put all of his knowledge to the test and crossed the line with another fourth place in GT3 Pro-Am.

Balfe Motorsport will aim to finish its British GT Championship season on a high, with the spectacular three-hour Silverstone 500 on the weekend of 7-8 November.
