Smith books his place in darts Pro-Am event

The high-quality field saw Shaun Drury beat Ray Bettison 2-0 in the opening game before Neale Thomas defeated Chris Butler 2-1.

Jamie Cooper progressed 2-0 against teammate Dave Manson and Jass Smith dispatched Rick Seaman 2-1.

Jass booked his place in the semis courtesy of a 180 and victory over Pete Evans.

Neale beat Shaun then Jamie, both 2-0, to book his semi place against Jass.

The tight affair saw Neale edge it 2-1 to move into the final.

The second half of the draw threw Ken Wilson and Gary Garton together in the opening fixture, with Ken winning 2-1.

Due to the withdrawal of Liam Simms, Lee Yates had a walkover to the next round where he was to meet Ken, winning 2-0.

Chris Fletcher took on David Tuplin, a rejuvenated Dave winning 2-0 before losing out 2-1 to Scott Smith.

Scott beat Lee 2-0 to set up a final against Neale Thomas in a gripping finale which swung one way then the other, only for Scott’s consistent scoring enough to see him win 2-1.

He will now link up with one of the eight pros on November 6.

Reigning BDO World Champion Scott Waites is preparing for six dates in and around Skegness, starting at the WMC on Saturday (8pm).

Sunday will see him in action at the Electric Club, Grantham, before Monday’s charity event at Burgh’s Bell Hotel (£3 entry and £2 to play) and Tuesday’s 8pm show at at Skegness’ Liberal and Social Club.

On Wednesday he will drop into the Batemans Brewery Visitors Centre (8pm) before his next event, Thursday’s appearance at Jesters Bar (8pm, £3 entry).

There he will take on Sam Hewson in a rematch of the Lakeside.

On July 1, the Barry Grenfell Memorial event will be held at the Red Lion, Burgh, with host Max Waxman.

Entry costs £2 and the league will be paying for a couple of taxis to transport competitors to and from Burgh.
