Worksop rods Jack Wilson and Brian Fox have been making the most of it taking 24 quality whiting from the middle stretch of Spurn Warren.

Jack reports that there was little weed to hamper the sport and the whole area has been fishing well for the last couple of weeks, the cod already starting to show at all the favourite marks.

Staying with the beach fishing scene we are finally able to bring you breaking news about the European Beach Fishing Open which is being held on the weekend of 9th and 10th March.

The match, which is the largest of its type in Europe if not the world has, for the last 19 years, been based at Bridlington, but this year it relocates to Tunstall which is more central and accessible to the full stretch of coast.

To top it all off, this year sees the prize fund increased to a massive £35,000 and a brand new car for the winner.

The Sand-Le-Mere Holiday Village will be offering accomadation from £8per night which for the first time will allow for all of the 2,000-plus competitors to stay in one location.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

STARTING at Lakeside, Wednesday’s open was won by Lol Lax on peg 32 using bomb fished maggot for an ide net of 38lb 5oz.

Colin Mitchell won Saturday’s winter league match on peg 6 with 42lb 6oz of ide and carp taken on the maggot feeder.

Sunday saw the first round of Woodseats Winter League with Colin McGarry tempting 40lb 6oz of skimmers taken on pole fished maggot from peg 26.

On the carp lake Paul Carmine and Steve Fox landed six specimens which included two 20s topped by a common of 22lb 10oz from peg 6 taken on boilies.

Over on the trout lake Mark Dobson slipped his landing net under 19 fish to 10lb on his bloodworm cast on a sinking line and black buzzers presented on a floating line.

Down the road at Riverside, in Tuesday’s open: 1st Chris Line 39lb 2oz peg 34 maggot feeder; 2nd Pete Ware 7lb 12oz peg 38 pole and maggot.

Wednesday’s contest: 1st Keith Noble 45lb 9oz peg 30 pole and maggot; 2nd George Wallace 15lb 8oz peg 18 pole and maggot.

Friday’s match: 1st Mark Cordell 26lb 14oz peg 30 pole and maggot; 2nd Brian Crowder 22lb 11oz peg 32 pole and meat.

Saturday’s open: 1st Terry Pixley 27lb 4oz peg 32 maggot feeder; 2nd Andrew Hunt 21lb 3oz pole and maggot.

Over at Lodge Farm, Tuesday’s match was on the signal pond: 1st Richard Woodward 80lb 3oz peg 9 method and maggot; 2nd Steve Bingham 78lb method and meat.

Wednesday’s over 50s was on the lily: 1st Dave Chin 84lb 12oz peg 67 pellet waggler; 2nd Steve Nemass 58lb 8oz peg 65 waggler fished meat.

Thursdays saw the competitors on the field pond: 1st Andy Favell 112lb peg 31 pole and pellet; 2nd Roger Edmund 101lb 14oz peg 30 pole and pellet.

Saturday’s open match was again on the field: 1st Nick Escreet 114lb 3oz bomb and meat peg 36; 2nd Mark Foy 90lb peg 38 pellet feeder.
