As transfer deadline date approaches the Steelers have confirmed they have received interest in forward Rob Sirianni from teams in Italy, Denmark and Norway.

Steelers officials spent Wednesday in talks with both Sirianni and the Italian clubs with a deal close to being thrashed out by the time they faced off against Edinburgh.

Sirianni was left out of the line-up but his team mates didn’t let his potential move effect them, running out 2-0 winners with goals from Nate DiCasmirro and Tim Spencer

“It wasn’t ideal preparation,” said head coach Doug Christiansen.

“The club management dealt with the transfer business as we prepared for the game.”

“As it stands he is still a Steeler until the I’s are dotted.”

“We don’t want him to move but understand his reasons.”

“We are immediately looking for a replacement and have about 14 days to find one.”

“Our deadline date is a little later than in Italy which is a blessing on this occasion.”

Whilst the Steelers chances of beating the Giants to the Elite League championship remain slim, a four point weekend in Belfast would certainly bring the Steelers closer to the Giants in their conference battle.

Christiansen addeD: “We of course want to win every game and won’t give up on the Championship until it is mathematically possible.”

“The conference is a lot more realistic though.”
