Steelers’ Sestito cleared of penalty

The Steelers star, who has made a huge impact for the club since signing during the NHL lockout, was given a match penalty for his hit on Hull Stingray player Andy Ward on Sunday.

Ward was injured in the hit and had to leave the ice, but the EIHL ruled this week that the hit was indeed fair and the match penalty – which carries an automatic one game suspension – has been reveresed.

Sestito will now be able to play in this weekend’s double-header in Belfast, with Steelers taking on the Giants twice in two nights.

Head coach Ryan Finnerty said: “We are delighted at the outcome of the review by the league and thank then for their time and deliberation in this matter.”

“Once we had reviewed all of the evidence we were confident that the penalty would be squashed as there wasn’t contact as suggested.”

“We can now prepare for the game against Belfast on Friday with Tom in our line-up.”

Steelers take some form into the weekend clashes with fellow title-hopefuls Belfast, having won their last four games to go top of the Elite League table.
