Striders ‘gallop’ to success at weekend

Most runners’ kits comprise of little more than a pair of trainers, shorts, and a vest – but competitors in Epworth running outfit Metres to Miles’ Rossington Gallop III could be forgiven for packing a bathing suit and snorkel, too!

A multi-terrain event hosted by the Northern Racing College near Bawtry, ‘The Gallop’ features approximately 10k of off-road racing and last weekend 200 intrepid athletes tackled a challenging course which incorporated a 10-yard section which passed through a dammed and muddy beck in which many floundered.

Fifteen Gainsborough and Morton Striders took part and all finished. Steven Gaffney performed exceptionally, finishing sixth in 39-45, less than three minutes behind the victor and leading the Striders to the Male Team title alongside Paul Dagg (20th) and Simon Hall (28th).

Angela Overson also ran strongly as the first female Strider and fourth lady overall to cross the finish line in 51-00, with Norman Hindley taking the Vet 60 title just behind in 51-08.
