Striders get stuck into the Gruesome race

Local athletes were in action in the Lincolnshire Wolds, runnining in the appropriately named ‘Gruesome Twosome.’

With 13 miles over varied terrain, but most of it muddy and hilly, this unique race asks pairs to run together with their time only counting when both are across the line.

Craig Ward and Chris Litherland, Sophie Wood and Lorna Allison, Jane Catley and Pascal Moran, and Mick Wood and Glenn Peniston all got their boots dirty in the brutal competition, with Wood and Allison coming seventh in the ladies pairs.

In Gainsborough, the Striders hosted the Phil Rose Memorial 10k on Sunday morning, which is a handicapped race, to ensure an exciting finish, which takes in the Gainsborough 10k route.

In very wet conditions, 15-year-old Elliott Clark usurped his father to take the title in a barnstorming personal best of 41:22, which took over 90 seconds from his previous best time.

Shelly Ibbotson and Lottie Lindley also ran brilliantly to secure new PBs in second and third place of 55:28 and 52:52 respectively.

At the Spires and Steeples event further south in the county, Tom Humphries ran strongly to finish fourth overall in the marathon distance off-road race.

Rebecca Cross ran the half marathon version and enjoyed the run, taking time out to snap a picture of how muddy her trainers were!

Over in Cleethorpes, junior Mitchell O’Connor ran fantastically to finish third in the beach Cross Country U13 race.

Tommy Wild and Declan Woodhead ran well too, with a just a few minutes separating the trio.

Jimmy Purdy, Lewis Bell and Nathan Woodhead represented the club in a strong U11 race and will looking forward to continuing their progression at the next event later this month.

With such a busy weekend, no Striders represented the club at Scunthorpe’s parkrun, but this weekend there will be a fantastic 5k opportunity as the town hosts the West Lindsey Series Gainsborough 5k.
