Taylor's finest hour (and half)

Billiards ace Chris Taylor is celebrating his '˜best-ever' result on the baize - after beating multiple world champion Peter Gilchrist.

‘Tink’ defeated his opponent to win the White Roofing Service Cambridge Open, the first event in this year’s English Billiards Social Series.

The final, played over one-and-a-half hours, saw Gilchrist begin with a 239 break.

Taylor had runs of 75 and 65, but left his best until late on.

With 25 minutes left to go, the Bostonian made a 161 break.

This put him 60 ahead.

Taylor then held on for victory.

“It’s made quite a few waves in the billiards world,” confessed Taylor.

“It’s my best-ever achievement in the 10 years I’ve been playing.”
