Tennis club green team claim county crown

Boston Tennis Club members managed to get some final action in before the nationwide lockdown.

Two weeks ago saw the final matches in the Dunlop Lindum Lincolnshire Winter Indoor Mini League.

The final of the 10 and under section saw the mini Greens in action. Billy Smith and Emily Pye were representing Boston against St James, Grimsby and two Louth teams.

In the semis Boston beat St James 6-0, beating their Louth rivals 4-1 in the final.

Isabel Wookey won the Fair Play award at this year’s Lindum Lincolnshire Tennis Awards.

She has consistently shown the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play in all the matches that she has played in this year, however one particular incident explains why she deserves the award.

One particular example came in the County Closed under 14 girls’ final when, at match point down, her opponent hit a shot which was called out.

Isabel asked the umpire to inspect a mark made from the shot which, in fact, saw the match awarded to her opponent.

William Cheer was named Junior Boy of the Year following an oustanding year, winning 10 grade three tournaments including four county titles.
