Thirds maintain brilliant 2011 form

DINNINGTON thirds’ good run of form continued with a 24-7 victory at Sheffield Oaks II on Saturday.

The result means Dinnington end 2011 having only lost six games in the calendar year.

The Lodge Lane men made a strong start and took the game to Oaks.

The forwards were on top in both the scrum and at the rucks and mauls and there was a good link between them and the backs

It was no surprise when they took the lead after 10 minutes as David Bell picked up at the back of a scrum to drive over for a try that he converted himself.

Further pressure forced an error from the home defence and Richard White pounced to put Dinnington 12-0 ahead just past the midpoint of the half.

Dinnington then relaxed and this allowed Oaks into the game.

The home side were able to get the ball away from the forwards into their backs and this brought them some success as they scored under the posts following a period of pressure in the Dinnington half.

Just before half-time Dinnington regained their edge and scored again when Dean McAulay scored following a quickly taken penalty.

The second half was more even with Oaks enjoying a lot more possession and Dinnigton having to do a lot more defending.

The home side were kept out and with 20 minutes of the half played Dinnington virtually assured victory as White crossed for his second try.

Bell converted.

This did not deter the home side from looking for another score but Dinnington were able to control play in the final minutes to keep them out.
