Toft Newton hits the headlines once again

This week we take another look at Toft Newton following a bumper week.

As the cooler weather approaches, all predators start to feed ravenously in readiness for the leaner winter months ahead, trout included.

This week has seen a marked increase in the number of larger trout falling to virtually all methods, particularly fry patterns.

They’ve dropped their guard while in a feeding frenzy.

It’s an amazing spectacle to watch, as the trout can be seen hoarding fry into the margins and striking into the shoals.

This is the time that the big fish make a mistake and get caught.

This week 56 anglers netted a total of 243 fish, giving an impressive rod average of 4.3.

Regular visitor, Brian Frost stood out from the crowd this week, banking a massive 8lb brownie.

Anthony Bevan is never far from the big fish either and has had a great season, landing some of the fishery’s biggest rainbows.

Toft change to their winter opening around mid December so get down there and fill your boots – although not literally!

On the match front, Nigel Shipman amassed an incredible 250lb of carp to easily beat the competition during Wednesday’s Autumn Fun League at Sherwood Forrest Fishery’s Holmedale Lake.

This was by far the biggest match weight from across the region.

Carl Brown fished the same lake during Sunday’s Open and also managed a bumper haul of over 200lb.
