Top six for Anston’s Jade in National Road Races

NORTH Anston runner Jade Allen starred in Saturday’s National Road Race at Clumber Park, as she gears up for important European trials.

The 22-year-old was part of a Rotherham Harriers team for the ERRA four-stage womens race in the National Trust park, clinching a club record finish.

The Harriers team placed sixth, and were the first northern club past the finish line.

Clubs from all over the country were present, having qualified through regional events, with the Harriers winning the northern section in Lancashire last month.

The event was originally cancelled, following an outbreak of E. coli at traditional venue Sutton Park, Birmingham.

But Clumber Park stepped in at late notice to host the races, which also saw the Harriers men finish in the top half of their field.

A top 10 placing will be a boost for Allen, ahead of the European Cross Country trials at the end of November.

Should she place in the top eight, selection for the Great Britain Under 23 squad for the European finals in Budapest is on the cards.
