Trent Valley duo pass the reliability test

On the longest route so far of 38 miles, none of the nine competitors opted for the 20mph A category, which had a time limit of one hour, 54 minutes. But both Steve Walker and Michael Adlington would have been justified in doing so because they finished in 1-46 and 1-48 respectively after choosing the 18mph B category, which had a limit of two hours, seven minutes.

The route took the riders along the riverside to Keadby Bridge and then on to Beckingham, from where they returned. Other riders in the B category were Darren Dickinson, who clocked 2-2, and Jeremy Hodson (2-4).

In the 16mph C category (time limit of 2-23), both Gary Reveell and Mark Leeson excelled themselves with respective times of 2-4 and 2-7, while Steve Cockerham clocked 2-16. The 14mph D category (2-43) featured Kieran Sandall and Aden Bott, who both returned home in 2-33.

On the same day, Trent Valley trio Rob Brooks, Michaela Freeman and Paul Freeman completed a 150m Audax UK event that started and finished at Stockport. And Andy Codd, along with cyclists from the Viking Velo club, were among 200 who took part in the 55-mile Tom Simpson Memorial Ride that started and finished in Harworth, north Nottinghamshire.
