TRIATHLON: Sleaford Aquathon produces amazing results

Last Monday saw the first of the three Aquathons organised and run by Tri3 Sleaford Triathlon Club.

The event involved a 400m pool swim followed by a 5km run for senior athletes and shorter distances for juniors (based on their age). The swimmers were set off in waves with all the juniors going first (youngest to oldest) followed by seniors (from slowest estimated time to fastest).

From Sleaford Leisure Centre, the run route led down the River Slea past Cogglesford Mill towards the A17 and back. Marshals lined the course to keep everyone on track and added some much needed words of encouragement. Spectators lined the bridge in front of the leisure centre to cheer finishers home.

There were some amazing swim and run times from the 19 juniors who took part. For the seniors, Ian Bailey (pictured) was first overall with a swim time of 6min 29sec and 17:39 for the run.

There are two more Aquathons due to be held on Monday, June 20 and Monday, July 18, and these are open to anyone aged eight or above.

Arrive at Sleaford Leisure Centre by 6.15pm to register, no need to pre-book. For more information, visit the club’s Facebook page: Tri3 Sleaford Triathlon Club
