The table tennis ace won the over 70s singles and doubles categories at Crawley last weekend, also reaching the semi-finals of the over 60s singles.

With Brian’s regular doubles partner Roy Norton teaming up with pal Emanuele Rame, who was visiting from Italy, the Wyberton competitor decided to team up with Peter Radford.

The two may be rivals on the singles circuit, but recently paired up while representing England in a six nations tournament, ending proceedings unbeaten.

And that winning streak continued as they stormed to victory - defeating Norton and Rame in straight legs in the final (11-6, 11-5, 11-9).

In a further twist of fate, Brian defeated Rame in straight sets in the over 70s men’s singles, before eventually getting the better of Radford in the final, finally coming good following a mammoth five-legger (11-3, 3-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8).

Brian also defeated Norton in straight sets in both the over 70s and over 60s singles, before being beaten by Radford in the semis of the 60s competition (8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 12-10), his doubles partner ending the day with a singles title of his own.
