Upsall end superb night with a title

Upsall faced holder Levi Giles of Grimsby ABC at the Haven High Academy on Saturday night, the second time the two were to fight for the title, with Giles already claiming victory on home turf.

After two close rounds, the third round was all Upsall as he claimed the lightweight title by way of split decision.

The show - in which local fighters put in a series of sterling performances - also featured a moving tribute to Paul ‘Johno’ Johnson, a Boston boxing stalwart who recently passed away.

Matthew Mooney boxed the fight of his life but somehow lost a split decision.

Aaron Johnson faced Bridlingon ABC’s George Pratt, and was in control for all of the three rounds, earning a unanimous decision.

Adrianna Finch faced Charlotte Jarvis, from Bridlington ABC, Jarvis taking the split decision.

Charlene Middlebrook suffered her first TKO as she was beaten by Hannah Shield from North Shields ABC.

Young Gel Finch boxed strongly against tough opponent Sian Judd, from Uxbridge ABC, Finch losing by unanimous decision.

Two unanimous decisions saw Demantas Sofonavas win against Slaine Nolan from One Nation and Blake Emmerson claim victory at the expense of Aiden Gillan, from Cam Pol ABC, Peterborough.

Female fighter Darcy O’Connor made her debut as she faced Molly Ann Hogan (Mighty Mick’s Boxing Club).

The referee stepped in to rescue Hogan in the first, the Boston battler eventually winning following a third-round stoppage.

Coby Brown’s new-found energy earned him a split decision victory - and revenge - against old adversary Tyler Bollingbroke of Attleborough ABC.

Harvey Elding faced Wiliam Harrison of the Terry Allen club, and was in control from the start.

Elding showed great offensive displays, leaving his opponent no room to reply and winning by a unanimous decision.

Boston’s Kain Penn was too strong and technical for Lyndon Cunningham, the City of Hull ABC lad facing a mandatory eight count at the end of the first round, eventually being counted out at the end of the third as Penn claimed a TKO victory.

Dylan Robinson, who has matured nicely following his previous skills bouts, boxed behind his strong jab, and defeated opponent Flannery courtesy of a unanimous decision.

Harry Britton got proceedings under way, facing Merseyside Hook and Jab ABC’s Jack Lowther Jnr in a skills contest. His twin brother Jimmy took on George Johnson, from City of Hull ABC, also in a skills bout.
