Victory inevitable for club’s fast pairing, in ‘two up’ race

Victory was almost inevitable for Gainsborough Aegir’s Julian Hesp and Jordan Skelly in the club’s ‘two up’ 10 mile time trial.

Damp conditions greeted the 12 competitors in a unique time trial that sees riders set off in pairs, riding together and sharing the workload.

As two of the clubs fastest riders, when Hesp and Skelly partnered each other they were favourites to take the win, and didn’t disappoint.

First season members Lee Harland and Arran Watson rode with experienced competitors Trevor Halstead and Steve Brown.

Both pairings rode well with Lee and Trevor each recording best times of the year so far.

The field also included no less than two tandem pairings, father and daughter Derek Sanderson and Helen Coleman were riding their first Aegir event of the year.

The shorter distance seemingly brought about improvement from Joe Nash and Andy Clarke.

Next up is a 15 mile league event with the option of the eight mile circuit also.

Ten Mile: 1st Jordan Skelly and Julian Hesp 24:51; 2nd Andy Lewin and Ian Ferraby 26:48; 3rd Lee Harland and Trevor Halstead 29:22; 4th Arran Watson and Steve Brown 31:30; Andy Clarke and Joe Nash 26:05; Helen Coleman and Derek Sanderson 30:15.

Gainsborough Aegir Cycling club’s Sunday Leisure Ride was out to Bransby Horses Home for the Open Day and Show.

On 12th June the club holds its league 15 mile and juvenile 8 mile time trial.

Riders should meet at Laughton Lane at 6.45 pm, with the first rider off at 7pm.
