Walking the Courses fundraiser arrives at Market Rasen

He completed the latest stage of his epic journey, a 41-mile walk from Southwell Racecourse to Market Rasen Racecourse, in time for the start of the latest local meeting.

Farquhar’s Walking The Courses campaign, started in March 2015, has grown to be racing’s biggest-ever charity campaign.

His mission is to connect all 60 of Britain’s racecourses on foot after being inspired to undertake this large-scale fundraising challenge when he lost his father to pancreatic cancer in 2012.

With both father and son being lifelong racing fans, Farquhar decided he wanted to involve all of the nation’s racecourses in his charitable initiative.

He is hoping his marathon efforts will raise a huge £1.4million to be split equally between two charities very close to his heart, Pancreatic Cancer UK and Racing Welfare.

The latter of these two charities takes care of the stable, stud and support staff of British Horse Racing, ensuring the well-being of the sport’s unsung heroes.

Farquhar walked around the course itself at Rasen before racing began.

Upon arrival at Market Rasen Racecourse he had covered around 2,250 miles and visited 50 of the country’s 60 racecourses. His fundraising total currently sits at around £315,000, including pledges.
