Stuart Moody made his debut for the hosts, having only started playing bowls this year.

He led well and along with Clive Hunter and Pete Cawthorne provided Beckingham with a 26-7 rink victory.

The other two rinks went Beckingham’s way by seven and three shots respectively.

The club’s two entrants in the GBL ladies’ singles progressed to round two.

Margaret Robinson had a bye and Carole Booth won her match at home against Marton’s Norma Kenyon.

Beckingham’s Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ League Northern Section team Don Brown, Roger Platts and Geoff Proudley had a four-shot rink win at home, but the other home rink lost by eight shots. The Central Section failed to win a rink at Marshall A.
