Weights still high

ALTHOUGH the unseasonal mini heat wave seems to have passed we are still enjoying above average temperatures and there is excellent sport to be had.

As you can see from commercial reports weights are well above what we would expect for this time of year.

The younger members of our column are reminded that there is just two weeks to go until the junior match at Aston Ponds and there are still places available.

The entry fee is a reasonable £6 and is open to anyone under 17 so if you are interested contact Neil Nicholson on 01909 484652 or 07901 795209 as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Many clubs are now coming to the end of their traditional summer season and will be holding presentation evenings, if you would like us to cover these events or would like to submit a report then please contact us.

CLUB RESULTS

THE members of Stanley Street Sports and Social AA visited Lakeside Fishery at Ranskill last Sunday where Shaun Sutton took the win from peg 37 fishing the method feeder tight to the island with maggot hook bait for a carp net of 55lb 5oz.

In second place with a 30lb 8oz mixed net of carp and bream was Ian Mellish from peg 29 with Mick Pogson third with a bream and ide net of 27lb 8oz.

In the juniors Ben Storey led the way taking 10lb 3oz of bream and ide from peg 17 with Crae Jackson second weighing 7lb 10oz.

Last Saturday saw the Worksop cadet squad also fishing the in-form Lakeside Fishery with Mathew Fores Donnelly taking top weight of 24lb 6oz, including an 8lb mirror carp.

Next came Morgan Makepiece with a mixed net of 11lb 5oz and Elliot Marries with 2lb 11oz.

Squad coach Doreen Butt tells us that everyone caught and had an enjoyable day and would like to extend their thanks to Lynda, Steve and the team for their hospitality.

Worksop Piscatorials had their latest match at the Clearwater Complex near Mattersey Thorpe on 1st October where Mick Pogson was a runaway winner, just falling short of the ton mark weighing 98lb 15oz.

In second was our old friend Ivor Jones with 38lb 10oz with Paul Mosgrove third with 26lb 8oz.

There are two matches to report on from the Greyhound AC which both took place on the River Trent at Torksey.

The first one was won by Russ Brown on peg 24 with 10lb 4oz just ahead of Charley O’Sullivan on next peg 25 with a level 10lb and Brett Northage making up the frame on peg 29 with 4lb 1oz all the main frame employed the feeder.

In the second match feeder tactics reigned supreme again for the top three with Alan Sargeson claiming victory on peg 29 with 21lb 8oz just squeezing John Moore into second on peg 19 with 21lb 4oz including an 8lb barbell and Tracy Dickinson was third with 17lb 8oz from peg 28.

Whitwell AC fished the ghost lake at Woodend Grange when the fishing was hard on a hot October day.

Paul Hallybone won on peg 4 using worm and caster in the margins for 42lb 7oz.

In second from peg 6 was Gary Levers with 19lb 7oz using caster, and in third after a late night and two hours sleep on the bank was Luke Mclaughlin in peg 3 with 18lb 4oz with casters in the margins.

AT Lodge Farm Bill informs us thatSaturday 15th will see an open match on the field pond with a 9am.draw and £15 entry fee.

Fishing will take place between 10am and 4pm.

The Scrooby Top venue is showing good form with Steve Bingham requiring 132lb 5oz to claim the win from peg 71 pole fishing pellet in Tuesday’s open on the lily pond.

Wednesday’s over 50s on the field pond was won on peg 3 by Pat Bailey with 132lb pole fishing pellet, just clear of Steve Nemass who fished the method feeder on peg 8 for 129lb 7oz with all the top four weighing over 100lb apiece.

Thursday’s competition on the long island saw Craig Crosby land 150lb 10oz pole fishing pellet on peg 94.

Over at Lakeside Brian Robinson claimed victory in Retford Disabled Anglers match with 40lb 2oz of silvers from peg 13 on his pole fished maggot.

Jamie Masson landed 30 carp and numerous ide on peg 29a on his method feeder with a maggot hook bait to land 219lb 6oz.

Pole fished pellet is also accounting for mixed nets approaching 80lb.

On the carp lake John Thompson landed seven specimens to 26lb 8oz taken from peg 3 on his pineapple boilie.

On the trout lake John Sanderson slipped his landing net under 13 fish to an impressive 10lb on his segmented blood worm cast on a sinking line.

At Riverside fishery Tuesday’s event was won by Keith Noble on peg 38 with 45lb 8oz on pole and pellet, with Terry Pixley second on peg 8 fishing worm and pellet for 42lb 12oz and John Bleakley third on peg 43 with 27lb 2oz bomb fishing meat.

On Saturday Bleakley recorded a win using bomb fished meat to record 30lb 6oz from peg 34.
