Westwood finishes the year on a high with top five Dubai placing

The Worksop man clinched a top five place at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, thanks to rounds of 70, 70, 65 and 68, ending the tournament 15 under par, 10 shots behind winner Henrik Stenson.

Admitting he has found life on the course difficult this year, a year that has passed without a victory for the 40-year-old, he said: “I’ve not been playing very well.”

“I’ve not been hitting it close and not been making anything.”

“My swing hasn’t been in sync all year, I’m sort of fumbling my way around the golf course and it’s something I’m going to work on over the winter, but I can build on the momentum this week has given me.”

He began the DP World Tour Championship alongside Miguel Angel Jimenez, and recorded a two under par round to tie for 10th place.

A second round of 70 saw him drop to a tie for 21st, but Saturday was a highlight for him, as he went seven under for 11 holes.

“ I got in my own way on the back-nine”, he said. “It was a decent round.”

The final round had Westwood paired with Jimenez once more, and he birdied the seventh and ninth on the outward nine and picked up three birdies and a bogey in the last five holes for a 68.

The English Deaf Golf Association has welcomeed both Tony Jacklin CBE and Lee Westwood OBE as patrons to promote the association.
