William reaches Winter Tour final

Boston Tennis Club's William Cheer was the runner-up at Nottingham Tennis Centre's Winter Regional Tour grade three tournament at the weekend.

Competing in the under 12 boys’ singles, William worked hard to make it two wins on day one of the tournament.

His second match was won 10-6 in a third-set tie-break, and secured William a place in the semi-finals.

Up against the number four seed, William won the first set 7-5 and comfortably won the second set, but facing the number one seed in the final was a bridge too far.

In the Lincolnshire Slazenger Winter Senior League, Boston Ladies had a 5-3 result against Bourne in Division One.

The team of Jenny McGarel, Rachel Gedney, Sue Burnett and Mary Smura were even with Bourne after the first round, but won one rubber in the next round and halved the remaining rubber to get that all important win.

The Men’s Seconds were competing in Division Two at Louth on Saturday.

It was a good match and a 5-3 result for the Boston team of Richard Hart, Michael Audus, Andy Clamp and David Makins.

All of Boston Tennis Club’s mini tennis green teams were out in force on Saturday, playing in the Lincolnshire Slazenger Winter Mini Tennis Green Leagues.

Boston D - Robbie Townsend and Freddie Robinson - beat Tennis Buddies 3-0 while Boston C’s Bethany Hayes and Daniels Goreliks lost out 1-2 to Tealby in a close match, the two singles going to Tealby and the doubles being won by Boston.

The B team of James Burrell and Will Shears had a very good win over a strong Grantham team.

It was 2-1 to the boys, having missed out on one of the singles in a tie-break, before they claimed a very close doubles.

The day was rounded off by Boston A’s Isabel Wookey and Lois Boothby winning 3-0 against Horncastle.
