Win! Tickets to darts World Trophy

The Gainsborough Standard has teamed up with the British Darts Organisation to offer darts fans the chance to go to a major new tournament.

We’ve got two pairs of tickets up for grabs, for both the semi-finals and finals of the BDO Daily Mirror World Trophy at Blackpool Tower Ballroom next month.

More than 1,000 players, including Gainsborough’s own Paula Jacklin, will join top professionals in the event, which will have a guaranteed £115,000 prize pot – one of the largest in the game.

The first BDO event of its kind, the Trophy will be televised live by Eurosport.

It will take place between 4th and 9th February, with our competition tickets valid for either the semi-finals on Saturday 8th or the final on Saturday 9th.

The tournament has been organised by The British Darts Organisation, and its new commercial partner BDO Events.

The World Trophy, with Special Event ranking points up for grabs, is the first in a year-long programme of events culminating in the Super Series in July.

Scott Waites, the reigning BDO World Darts Champion, said: “A new event on the world stage is just what we need.”

“For me it’s as much about playing darts with my mates on a Monday night and having a laugh, as the razzmatazz of the big tournaments.”

“But I’m walking taller since winning the BDO World’s and very proud of that title.”

“It’s time for a new era of darts and this major new tournament will spice things up.”

Top players from throughout the world are already competing in play offs to determine who will represent their country.

The winner of the World Trophy will qualify for immediate entry into the playoffs at the Winmau Word Masters and the Lakeside World Championships.

Gainsborough’s Jacklin can’t wait for her TV debut.

She told the Standard: “I’ve never been given anything in my life and this is just the best thing to happen to me in darts.”

“I’ve been playing for 42 years and this is the first time I’ve ever been live on television, I’ll definitely be a bit nervous.”

Tickets range from £5 to £35 for spectators.
