Woodhall golfers narrowly miss out on European Tour qualifiers

Billy Spooner missed out on a place in the final round of the European Tour Q School... by just two shots.

The teenager finished with an impressive -6 after four rounds of action at Spain’s Panoramica Golf and Spa Resort in Castellon.

But it wasn’t quite enough to book at place at the final round in the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, beginning on Saturday.

Spooner began with an opening round of 71 on the par 72 course on Friday.

He then had a fantastic weekend as he recorded back-to-back rounds of 69 on Saturday and Sunday.

This was followed up by Monday’s round of 73.

Spooner’s event was won by Paul Maddy with -19, while competitors recording scores of up to -8 booked their place in the final round.

Dave Coupland missed out on a place in the final round by three shots at the Campo de Golf El Saler, near Valencia.

He carded rounds of 71, 71, 76 and 69 on the par 72 course to finish joint 30th overall.

Golfers with scores up to -4 booked their place in the final.

Both Spooner and Coupland are attached to Woodhall Spa Golf Club.
