Big plans ahead for Big Gig 2017

The Big Boston Gig saw Radio One DJ Phil Taggart headline three days of live music at Boston Cricket Ground in July.

A host of commercial acts from across the UK also performed, including Too Many T’s, Hot Soles, Bone Cult and Glastonbury award-winning musician Declan Mckenna.

They were joined by local talent including rock group Kill The Ideal, who have been signed up to a record label.

Now organisers say they need to take a break to work on building the event up for 2017 - with an aim to hold it in Central Park.

As with last year, the next Big Gig is being co-organised by Dylan Taylor, of Endeavour Radio, musician and promoter Jimmy May and event manager Julie Collishaw.

“If you’ve never heard of the Big Boston Gig, this is precisely why we need to take a break, focus on getting the word out and ensure everybody who wants to enjoy the experience can,” said Mr Taylor. “This will only be achieved if we strengthen links with organisations in the town and work together. This takes time and we are going to use this year to push ahead and forge these new relationships.”

One of the Big Boston Gig’s main aims was to attract people from across Lincolnshire and further afield.

Their aim was also to bring talented, touring musicians to the town, which they did.

Unfortunately, the number of people turning out to support the first festival was lower than expected.

Despite this, the organisers managed to create an intimate, welcoming and entertaining event, which received plenty of positive feedback.

“We would like to replicate this on a grander scale,” said Mr Taylor.

“We are passionate and committed to creating a big annual event that generates a buzz, brings the community together and that families can bring their children to.”

The organisers are holding a public meeting and inviting interested parties to attend. It takes place in Blackfriars Theatre tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30pm.
