World Book Day is a Unesco programme run worldwide to celebrate reading, authors and literature.

Youngsters came dressed as an array of super heroes, fairies and princesses as well as characters from Funny Bones, Cat in the Hat and the Gruffalo.

All the three-year-olds at the nursery received their Book Start ‘My Treasure Bag of Stories,’ while the other children were given a special book to mark the occassion, donated by the pre-school management committee.

Louise Passaseo, childcare manager, said: “It’s fabulous that every child will be taking a book home with them.”
