Book now for series of summer concerts at intimate, beautiful venues

Tickets have gone on sale for a popular series of summer concerts hosted at intimate venues across South Kesteven.

Audiences will find themselves in the beautiful setting of historic village churches for the annual music series organised by South Kesteven District Council.

Music In Quiet Places this year offers a mixture of different styles, sounds and genres – with tickets sure to sell quickly.

This year’s programme offers a choice between haunting melodies, the lively rhythms of Scottish folk tunes, classical chamber music, exquisite lute songs and elegant dance music and original compositions on the classical guitar.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Coun Paul Stokes, who is also Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “This is a unique mix of music and musicians, and I’d recommend booking quickly to avoid any disappointment.

“Last year’s season was our most successful ever, and experiencing such talented performers in these beautiful settings for intimate concerts is hard to beat.”

Church venues take in St Mary and St Peter's, Harlaxton; St Andrew's in Billingborough; St Andrew's, West Deeping; and the church of St Stephen in Careby.

In Harlaxton, the Chameleon quartet – sharing 13 instruments between them – draw on diverse instrumentations and time periods to create a dynamic, engaging concert, featuring a mix of original composition and player-arranged works, performing everything from Dvorák and Scottish folk to distinctive vocal harmony.

The award-winning Elmore Quartet will visit Billingborough to perform their chamber music at St Andrew’s Church. They are familiar to listeners of BBC Radio 3 and are prize-winners at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

K’Antu Ensemble present Music in the Age of Discovery in West Deeping. Their voyage travels the courts of Renaissance Europe, when explorers searched out new worlds, sparking a cultural exchange that would shape the globe. Be ready for quirky facts and vivid quotes which bring the stories, characters, and contexts behind the music to life.

Simon Thacker is a composer, classical guitarist, improviser and ensemble leader. Equally at home playing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with an orchestra or performing Bengali Baul spiritual songs for an audience of 60,000 at South Asia’s largest folk festival, he visits Careby in July.

Tickets (£15-£17) can be obtained from www.stamfordartscentre.com – or call the box office on 01780 763203. Tickets also on sale at Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre.
