Console Corner: God of War 3 Remastered review

God is a remastered gamer.

Sony is making a habit of remastering PlayStation 3 classics in full 1080p, 60fps glory and God of War 3 is the latest to get the next gen treatment.

The cynics, ie me, would say the gaming giants are doing this because of the huge wave of gamers that have moved over from Microsoft to Sony for next gen who are unlikely to have played these Sony exclusives on PS3.

It worked a treat for the likes of The Last Of Us which remains one of the best titles available on PS4.

And they have managed it again with GOW3 although the graphics are not noticeably improved by a huge stretch even though they are still gorgeous. For those unfamiliar with the GOW games they take a large serving of huge and add a big dollop of massive with a sprinkling of enormous.

The third-person action-adventure is loosely based on Greek mythology and set in ancient Greece with vengeance as its central plot.

You play Kratos, a former God of War, after his betrayal at the hands of his father Zeus, King of the Olympian Gods.

Reigniting the Great War, Kratos ascends Mount Olympus until he is abandoned by the Titan Gaia.

Guided by the spirit of Athena, Kratos battles monsters, gods and Titans in a search for Pandora, without whom he cannot open Pandora’s Box, defeat Zeus, and end the reign of the Olympian Gods.

The gameplay is combo-based combat with the player’s main weapon—the Blades of Exile—and secondary weapons acquired during the game.

My main criticism of GOW3 Remastered is probably the lack of new content.

I think if developers are going to do these remasters, and there is definitely a place for them, then extra content and additional features are a must.

It is not a big enough gripe to spoil anything, though as the game delivers so much in terms of imagination and spectacle that it is simply a must play.
