The popular stand-up night, launched by comedian Jason Manford, comes to town. First up is Phil Walker, known for his relaxed and fun style, with plenty of Northern banter and amusing anecdotes. “The gags and observations keep on coming thick and fast,” say Chortle, “he can pretty much guarantee a good night out”.

Helen White is the next name on the lineup. Described as “Geordie pocket-rocket” by The Stand Up Club, Helen brings wit and enthusiasm, using relatable tales in her comedy to get any audience laughing.

Headliner Alex Boardman is one of the most sought-after acts in the country, known for his ability to interact with any audience and to seemingly conjure something out of nothing, with a free-flowing style. The Guardian called him “very funny” and a “rare mixture of wit and charm”.

The MC for the night will be the upbeat and down-to-earth Dave Twentyman. Visit trinityarts.co.uk or call 01427 676655 to book.

2 Ukrainian National Opera: Carmen, New Theatre Royal, Lincoln, Friday February 27

The Dnipro Opera from Ukraine, featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a live orchestra numbering more than 30 musicians, perform Bizet’s beloved opera. Carmen tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who falls head over heels in love with Carmen, a seductive, free-spirited femme fatale. The infatuated Don José abandons his childhood sweetheart and neglects his military duties, only to lose the fickle Carmen to the glamorous toreador Escamillo.

The music of Carmen has been widely acclaimed for the brilliance of its melodies, enthralling atmosphere, and orchestration, as well as for the skill with which Bizet musically represented the emotions and suffering of his characters. It includes The Toreador Song, among the best known of all operatic arias. Visit newtheatreroyallincoln.ticketsolve.com or call 01522 519999 to book.
