The star’s live performance on Sunday (September 18) at HMV in Lincoln’s High Street will be followed by an album signing session of his brand new album, Ballads of the Broken Few.

The intimate session will begin at 2pm with accompaniment from indie/Americana trio Wildwood Kin.

Ballads of the Broken Few will be Lakeman’s eighth studio album and is a combination of his dynamic songwriting and playing, legendary producer Ethan Johns and the harmony vocals of emerging young female trio Wildwood Kin - two sisters (Emillie and Beth Key) and their cousin (Meghann Loney), also from Devon.

The 11 tracks were cut ‘live’ in the great hall of a Jacobean Manor House. Inspiring and unconventional locations is characteristic of Lakeman, who recorded his previous albums in a church and a copper mine.

Producer, Ethan Johns has said of the album: “The spiritual-sounding songs have a trance-like quality. They encompass evocative contemporary messages, yet have an ethereal sound as if they have been hanging in the air for centuries. We let nothing impair the raw, visceral content - just enshrined the pure sounds of voices and ringing instruments.”

Ethan Johns has produced albums for the likes of Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, The Staves and Crosby, Stills and Nash. He agreed to produce the album after Lakeman sent him one roughly recorded song on his mobile phone, with the trio of girls adding their harmonies to the folk singer’s gritty lead vocals.

Lakeman continues to relentlessly push his musical boundaries since the Mercury Prize nominated “Kitty Jay”, the follow-up gold selling “Freedom Fields” and his last offering, “Word of Mouth”. A deft collection of mini musical biographies of colourful West Country characters, which resulted in him and fellow leading British folk musicians claiming “Best Group” and “Best Album” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

With “Ballads of the Broken Few” Lakeman demonstrates that he is not complacent and is constantly exploring new and bold musical paths.

Access to the live show is granted on a first come first served basis.
