“The group sings almost entirely a cappella, although they have occasionally used accordion, guitar and drums very sparingly on recordings.

“Performers Barry Coope, Jim Boyes and Lester Simpson skillfully blend their voices in a distinctive, unforgettable style which takes English roots into a radically new direction.

“They perform a mixture of creatively arranged traditional folk songs, hymns and carols, and their own original compositions.

“They are described as ‘simply the best purveyors of a cappella songs on these islands’. With 16 best-selling albums to their name this incomparable trio has been at the heart of the British folk scene for the past 26 years.”

Coope, Boyes and Simpson play The Roots Music Club, The Ukrainian Centre, Beckett Road, Doncaster town centre, on Friday, April 8, from 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 from www.rootsmusicclub.co.uk
