Market Rasen Choral Society in tune for concert

How often do you get a chance to hear a live orchestra in Market Rasen?

Market Rasen and District Choral Society always chooses a major work with orchestra and soloists for its May concert, and this year they are looking back to 1999 when they performed the same programme: Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Rutter’s Requiem.

An evening spent listening to a Mass and a Mass for the Dead might not sound very attractive, but you’d be surprised.

A Requiem Mass is full of powerful emotions, which is why movements from Mozart and Verdi Requiems are often used as background music for programmes and adverts.

Rutter’s music is on a smaller scale but no less intense and has some beautiful melodies such as the soprano solo Pie Jesu.

The concert takes place this Saturday at 7.30pm in De Aston Sports Hall.

Tickets cost £12 (age 16 and under free) from The Gift Horse or Jacques Hardware in Market Rasen, Caistor Post Office or 01673 844750.
