Music and drama festival takes centre stage in Brigg

Music classes all take place in St John’s Church, with the solo descant recorder class for children eight years old starting the whole festival off at 9am on the Monday.

Entries appear to be down in numbers this year, which has resulted in the music competition section being reduced from four days to three days.

Of the adult classes, organisers say there is sure to be some quality music.

Rounding off the music section in the evening programme on Wednesday will be the Brigg Singers at 7pm, and Da Capo Folk Group from Market Rasen later in the evening.

The Vale Academy continues to support the festival, with both the Academy Wind Band and the Samba Band taking part at 4pm on Tuesday March 1.

As always one of the most popular sections will be those for primary school choirs.

Festival programmes are available from Grandad’s Shed and Wallhead’s Gents Outfitters in Wrawby Street.

Adjudicator for music is Sam Dunkley, a Yorkshire-based music education consultant and community musician.

Mr Dunkley has also sung for Opera North and conducted at the Royal Albert Hall.

The drama competition section follows, starting on March 7, again in St John’s Church.

The festival concert and presentation of awards will round the whole event off on Saturday, March 12, in the Vale Academy’s Westmoor Hall, starting at 6pm.
