Rasen library in pilot scheme for young readers

Market Rasen Library has been chosen as one of five across the county to pilot a new scheme to help young children explore reading.

The library, in Mill Road, won a Bookstart Award in 2014 for signing up the most members to the Bookstart Club and they hope the new scheme will be just as successful.

“Through the introduction of this pilot scheme, we really want to encourage families to visit the library regularly, highlight the importance of reading together and help children develop a lifelong love of books,” said Tarina Jones, inclusion services coordinator with Lincolnshire County Council.

Bear’s Reading Adventures will be launched today at Lincoln Central Library and aims to help children aged up to five to explore reading and discover what their local library has to offer.

Each child will receive their own special sticker book, following Bookstart Bear on his reading adventure, travelling to places including the park, supermarket and library.

But... 10 objects are missing, which children have to find.

Each time children visit the library, they will be rewarded with a sticker of one missing object.

“Bookstart Bear will be visiting each of the participating libraries to say hello to children taking part in the project and asking them to help him on his adventures,” added Ms Jones.

To find out more about the scheme, call into Market Rasen Library and speak to a member of the staff.

The library also holds a 30-minute storytime on Tuesdays, from 2.15pm, for little ones to enjoy.
