Ryan Cook, from Nova Scotia, is a national recording star back home and has made his first visit to the UK, making an appearance at the two-day Maverick Americana music festival in Suffolk.

Peter and Faith Hopkins got to know him through visiting their daughter in Canada who had worked for him making music videos. Ryan got in touch looking for other places to play while he took in the sights of the UK and offered to do a special ‘garden concert’ for them and a collection of about 60 guests.

Faith said: “We are quite big fans of him and he always said when he comes over to the UK he will look us up. He has done lots of home concerts in Canada but it is a fairly new concept over here.”

The singer did two sets and a couple of requests and said afterwards: “I have performed house concerts before - some are rowdier than others. They were very respectful and very appreciative, a very nice turn out for someone they may not have heard before.

“A lot of people bought my album and maybe a following will grow from Silk Willoughby.”

Faith said: “It was absolutely amazing and we had lovely weather. We are really pleased that Ryan took the time to come and see us.”

He stayed over and was shown around Lincoln before doing another gig in Battle, East Sussex, then flying back home to Canada.
