You are all heroes! Sleaford area schoolchildren and grown ups raise a smile for Comic Relief

Sleaford area schools were all heroes as they joined in the wonderful efforts to raise money for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day 2021 yesterday (Friday).

Comic Relief raised a total of £45,938,942 on the night to help tackle hunger, homelessness, domestic abuse and mental health stigma.

Locally, schools followed the national theme of super heroes.

Children were invited to turn up at Winchelsea School in Ruskington hero outfits in return for a £1 donation and took part in fun activities with their class, such as cake making.

Headteacher Helen Duckett said they were not selling red noses this year due to Covid-19 but they were still available from retail outlets.

Children came to school dressed as either a fictional character such as Spiderman or a real life hero famous or not such as a football star or their Mum - whoever they felt is their hero.

Miss Duckett turned up as Mighty Mouse where there were other staff dressed as Wonder Woman and other characters

Miss Duckett added: “Thanks to everyone who donated to super hero day for Comic Relief. We have raised a fantastic £216.37 (and one euro!). Sorry if my outfit scared anyone at the gate!”

Pupils wore red at William Alvey School in Sleaford, while Sleaford secondary schools ran a non-uniform day for donations.

Caythorpe Primary School also followed the super hero theme, with youngsters dressing in red or as heroes.

They raised £112 by the end of the day, including doing their wake and shake dance to the Red Nose Day song.

Sleaford man Carl Davison was seen doing his bit for Comic Relief as he pounded the pavements in the rain.

The Interflora worker is running a 10km each day for seven days. Friday was day five, to raise money for Comic Relief.

I am going to run 10K every day for 7 days. for Comic Relief: Red Nose Day because we make beautiful moments for special people

So far he has raised £200 in donations towards his £500 target on JustGiving, which you can donate to here.

Carl says on his fundraising page: “The world needs a life-changing laugh now more than ever. That’s why I’m getting involved in the Red Nose Day fun on March 19. I’m going to run at least 10K every day for the next seven days to try and raise some money for Comic Relief. Please help me raise some much needed funds for this great charity.
