Not every father and son can say they spend quality time together on the set of a BBC TV show.

But for Terry Martin and his son Ricky, playing a fictional father-and-son on madcap kids’ programme Art Ninja is all in a day’s work.

“I play his dad, who is kind of the fall guy,” said Terry. “It’s really a lot of fun.”

The Fosdyke father appears in six episodes of the show, which features “art ninja” Ricky displaying his animation and art skills, mixed with some madcap sketches with his dad and friends.

Art Ninja is the brainchild of Ricky, of Bristol, who has previously worked for Aardman Animations – famous for creating the Wallace and Gromit films. Ricky cast his own dad in the TV role, saying: “He does really well and we have a laugh on set.”

Terry said: “There are some very corny jokes in it, but the kids love it and I enjoy it.”

He added: “I really admire Ricky as he’s doing all the things I wanted to do when I was younger, but never had the guts.”

Art Ninja is currently airing on CBBC on Saturday mornings at 9am.
