It is almost time for John Lewis to release its latest Christmas advert. The festive institution was teased on social media over the weekend - and it could be here in less than 24 hours!
Released every year since 2007, it has become a firm fixture of the holiday calendar. Over the years, viewers have been treated to plenty of classics - with lots of lovable creations like Monty the Penguin.
Before the 2025 version arrives and we discover what John Lewis has up its sleeve for this Christmas, I decided to go back over all the previous adverts. It includes last year’s offering: The Gifting Hour.
But do you agree with my rankings, or have I got your favourite in the wrong spot? Let me know your picks by email: [email protected].
John Lewis dropped a massive hint for its 2025 Christmas advert over the weekend on social media. Fans even think they’ve figured out which song will feature this year.

17. 3 - The Man on the Moon (2015)
Following up Monty the Penguin would always be a tough ask, but the Man on the Moon is a really strong effort. It is such a fun concept, the idea of ‘the man on the moon’ being literally just a man. It has one of the top five cover songs - and like all the best Christmas stories it has just a hint of the bittersweet, but it is perhaps a tad long. 18. 3- Excitable Edgar (2019)
Can we start by just taking a moment to admire the craftsmanship of this advert - it looks better than some Hollywood films released in the last few years. Personally, I love everything about this one - the song choice, the storyline, and of course the moment that poor Edgar is able to use his fire for good and light the Christmas pud. Not sure what the collective opinion is on this one, but it is a really strong effort and extremely Christmassy in a fairy tale way. 19. 2 - The Gifting Hour (2024)
A magical trip through the nostalgia of Christmases past, I found myself completely charmed by this effort. It gives strong Narnia vibes - the first film of which came out at Xmas and I remember watching with my own sibling. It is a brilliant effort and was well worth the wait. I love how it captures the manic vibes of doing Christmas shopping at the last minute and how the holiday really is all about your family - and the joy of getting the perfect present. 20. 1 - Monty the Penguin (2014)
Look, penguins are my favourite animals and so I have always had a soft spot for this advert. I remember it being released more than a decade ago and I wondered if my fondness for it was purely nostalgia based. But Monty’s quest for love is still as endearing now as it was back then. Rating: 5 Jingle Bells. | YouTube/ John Lewis Photo: YouTube/ John Lewis
