Library ready for re-launch as '˜Focal Point'

Alford Library reopens next week, now as a volunteer-run operation.

The resource, in South Market Place, was one of the libraries Lincolnshire County Council chose to hand over to community groups last year in a bid to save money.

Following a temporary closure, the library will re-open on Tuesday as Alford Focal Point with, volunteers say, extended facilities for residents.

Over the last few weeks, redecorations have been taking place ready for the relaunch.

The library will follow its previous opening times on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Coun Nick Worth, executive member for libraries at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Many community hubs are now up-and-running, and I’m really impressed by the number of volunteers and what they have achieved in such a short space of time.

“Some hubs are already offering longer opening hours and providing other services under the same roof.

“Not only does that make life more convenient for existing customers, it should also encourage new people to make use of local library services.

“I’m sure the Alford hub will be equally successful, and look forward to working with them.”
