Move over Monza - here's a new circuit

Lincolnshire Radio Controlled Car Racing Club welcomed racers from all over the country for a round of the UK Championships at their carefully developed track at North Ings Vintage Tractor and Train Museum in Dorrington.

Competitors spent all weekend practising and racing.

Graham Smith from the Lincolnshire club said: “The racing went well and ran smoothly, thanks to the BRCA, with 51 drivers in attendance amongst the three different classes: two wheel drive, four wheel drive and short course trucks.”

The weather improved to provide a glorious afternoon on race day. Drivers came from as far north as the Lake District and as far south as Cornwall to take on the new challenging track, with some finding it easier than others.

Graham said: “The day as a whole went very well, with everyone pleased at the new track layout. Unfortunately, due to mechanical issues, no one from North Ings Raceway did very well, the best being Roger Smith (his son), who finished third in class.”

Graham, from Spalding, his son Roger and father Derek are all involved in the club.

The highly-technical one-fifth scale cars are about 2ft 6in long and weigh about three stones, reaching speeds up to 60mph.
