Wall-of-death fairground ride among models on display at Dogdyke open day

An exhibition that focuses on model-making is the highlight of the next open day at the historic Dogdyke Pumping Station near Tattershall Bridge.

In the station's attractive grounds, there will be a fascinating display of models, including Hornby O gauge trains, agricultural carts and wagons, and working model oil and steam engines.

The display will even include a model of a thrilling wall-of-death fairground ride that revellers used to enjoy at Skegness.

Admission will be free to the open day, which will take place on Sunday, June 7 from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

The station’s unique Bradley and Craven steam powered beam engine of 1856 and also the 1940 Lincoln-built Ruston and Hornsby oil engine will both be operating for visitors.

These engines are typical of the machines that were once seen across the Lincolnshire Fenland, keeping the farms and villages dry.

Other attractions on the day will include bric-a-brac stalls, a tombola, plant stalls and children’s games.

Refreshments will be available in the pump attendant’s cottage, where there is a museum featuring the history of land drainage.
