Woodhall Spa at heart of amazing golf challenge -- 1,000 courses in 1,000 days
Woodhall Spa is to be the starting and finishing point of an amazing attempt by a golfer to play 1,000 courses in 1,000 days for charity.
Businessman David Tuscarny, 53, will tee off at the Hotchkin course on New Year’s Day 2027 and, hopefully, he will complete his challenge three years later on the Bracken course.
In between time, he will play 998 other golf courses across mainland Britain – and aim to raise a whopping £500,000 for the Alzheimer’s Research UK and Golf Foundation charities.
The 1000, as David has branded the challenge, is dedicated to his mother, who died in January this year after she had been living with dementia, cared for by her son.

“My mum loved being out in the countryside, and walking was her thing until dementia made her too frail to do it,” said David, who lives near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.
“I looked after her through dementia and, after losing her, I wanted to do something in her memory that was positive, that would get me out there and that could hopefully make a difference to other families.
"I love golf, but playing 1,000 courses isn’t really the point. The point is what those 1,000 rounds can help achieve.”
David is such a golf fanatic that he runs ChippedIn, a golf media, course review and club consulting company.

But his challenge will support two causes just as close to David’s heart, with 80 per cent of donations going to Alzheimer’s Research UK, supporting research towards a cure for dementia, and 20 per cent to the Golf Foundation, helping more children and young people discover golf and the benefits it can bring.
David will be joined for the opening round at Woodhall Spa by 28-year-old Josh Simpson, from Norfolk, who holds the world record for the most golf courses played in a single year (652 in 2025), also as a charity fundraiser.
"I chose Woodhall Spa because it is the home of England Golf and two of the finest inland courses in the country,” David said.
"The heathland also drains beautifully, which matters when you’re starting a challenge on January 1!”

From Woodhall, The 1000 will take David through three British winters and every kind of weather the country can throw at him as he attempts to play 1,000 different courses within the 1,000-day deadline.
Every course will form part of the story, with daily social content and regular films documenting the journey across ChippedIn’s channels (@chippedinuk).
Along the way, David will also visit schools and care homes to talk about The 1000, the benefits of golf and the causes behind the challenge.
“Some days will be brilliant, some will probably be miserable, and there will almost certainly be days when I wonder what on earth I’ve got myself into,” he went on.
“But that’s part of it. I want people to come along for the journey. I want clubs and golfers to get involved, I want young people to see what golf can offer them and, most of all, I want to raise as much money as we can for dementia research.
“If, at the end of 1,000 days, we’ve played 1,000 courses and raised £500,000, I’ll know it was worth every step.
"I was effectively my mum’s carer from 2023 to 2025 until she needed specialist care. I saw its impact on her, first hand, day by day.
"My mother-in-law is also in the final stages of dementia, so it’s something my wife, our children and I can’t stop thinking about.”
Zoe Dean, senior relationship fundraising officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We’re so grateful to David for supporting our charity.
"If nothing changes, one in two of us will be directly affected by dementia – by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves or both.
"Fantastic fundraising efforts like this are helping us get closer to a cure for people with dementia and their loved ones. We wish David the best of luck.”
Brendon Pyle, chief executive of the Golf Foundation, said: “David is taking on a truly remarkable challenge, and we are delighted that The 1000 will help more children and young people discover golf and the life skills the game brings.
"The funds raised for the Golf Foundation will support our work in schools and communities across Britain, and we will be cheering David on every step of the way.”
