The Asda Foundation is committed to helping young people thrive in communities across the UK and set aside up to £950,000 in grant funding to support grassroots groups delivering vital resources, activities and workshops for young people aged four to eighteen.

The funding was aimed at supporting activities that boost children’s mental health and wellbeing while opening up positive opportunities for the future. It also helped tackle inequalities faced by many families, particularly during school holidays, including access to good nutrition, hygiene and emotional support. In addition, grants funded essential equipment and kit to give children the best possible start in life and encourage physical health, inclusion and overall wellbeing.

Local groups providing inspiration, education and vital support for young people were invited to apply for grants of between £500 and £1,000. The funding helped organisations connecting young people to their peers to deliver programmes that support emotional and mental wellbeing, provide essential items, raise awareness of issues affecting teenagers, and strengthen connections within the community. It also supported projects promoting physical health and wellbeing, as well as those offering help with rehabilitation, recovery and even accommodation for young people most in need.

One of the successful groups in Boston was Wainfleet and District Young Farmers Club which will be supported with a donation of £500 that will be used to expand their activities by delivering more craft sessions and purchasing materials for pottery, wreath making, and other creative projects.

Wyberton FC Under 14s team will also receive £500 to provide kit for the players.

Friends of Eresby School, a group for staff & families of Eresby School pupils with the aim to raise money for items for the school, was awarded £875 to support the school’s Thrive Approach, helping children to develop emotional regulation, confidence and communication skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Games and creative activities will be carefully selected to encourage cooperation, turn-taking, self-expression and problem-solving, particularly benefiting pupils who experience anxiety, emotional or behavioural challenges.

Friends of St Nics, a group set up to give the children at St Nicholas CE Primary Academy opportunities that they might otherwise never be able to access or enjoy, will receive £500 to enable the provision of essential food items, breakfast supplies, and basic hygiene products to ensure children continue to have access to nutritious meals and basic necessities during the school holidays.

Boston Colts FC were looking to purchase new equipment for their players which will be used by several ages and for different stages within the club. The Asda Foundation made £500 funding available for the group.

Billinghay and District Community Swimming Pool was awarded £1,000 to assist local teenagers in completing their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) courses.

Stephen Bromby, Asda Boston's community champion said: “These grants provide a wonderful opportunity to help keep these projects running and will benefit the children and young people in our community.”

“The Asda Foundation is now reviewing submissions for its Local Community Spaces Fund where a number of groups in the Boston area have applied for funding between £10,000 to £20,000 to repair, maintain, expand and improve community spaces that bring people together. We’ve got our fingers crossed for all the charities in our neighbourhood who applied for that too!”
