Boston runners at the Backyard Ultra
Gritty displays by Boston duo in ‘last one standing’ race
Two determined members of Boston Community Runners took part in the gruelling Suffolk Backyard Ultra at High Lodge in Thetford Forest, Suffolk.

It is a ‘last one standing’ format race and requires runners to complete a 4.167-mile (6.706 km) loop every hour until only one competitor remains.
Should you not finish the looped distance within the hour when the next lap starts, then you are out.
This highly competitive endurance event is as exciting to spectate as well as take part.
Shorter six-hour and 12-hour distance options were also introduced alongside the traditional unlimited ‘last man standing’ challenge.
However, both Tanya Knight and Sarah-Jane Eggleton both took part in the full challenge.
On the Saturday it rained and then rained some more and Tanya said she got through lots of different clothes, trainers, jackets and socks.
Everything including her tent was absolutely drenched - even the tent got bailed out.
But the running was going well for Tanya until trench foot and blisters arrived.
It got to the point that she could only run on her heel which then caused other issues and she was going to get timed out, so that was her DNF lap, finishing after a fabulous 14 yards and 58 miles.

Sarah-Jane could complain hers was not the result she really wanted.
But having had cataract surgery only eight weeks previously, and with the subsequent four week running ban after the operation, she should actually be pretty pleased with her seven loops, equating to just a touch over 29 miles.
On reflection she knew she'd ran an excellent Ultra, given the fact she'd not been allowed to train for the month beforehand.
