Celebrating 100 Years of Farming at Stourton on Open Farm Sunday
Stourton Estates marks 100 years of farming on Open Farm Sunday
Stourton Estates will be opening their gates to the public on Sunday June 7 as part of Open Farm Sunday, marking a special milestone - 100 years of farming at Stourton.

Taking place at Stourton Woods near Baumber from 10am–4pm, the free event will give visitors the chance to explore the estate, learn how farming has changed over the last century and discover how modern farming works alongside nature today.
The event forms part of the national Open Farm Sunday initiative organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), which encourages farmers across the country to connect the public with the realities of modern food production, environmental stewardship and rural life.

Visitors to Stourton can expect a packed day of activities, demonstrations and local produce, including:
· free tractor and trailer farm tours around the estate
· Displays of modern tractors, combine and machinery
· Forestry demonstrations and countryside activities

· Farmers market traders and local rural businesses
· Local food and drink producers
· Children’s activities including grain pit play area and ride-ons
· Hot food, refreshments and street food vendors throughout the day

Also on display will be a series of boards charting the history of Stourton Hall, the estate and farming at Stourton from 1926 to today. Using historic documents, the display tells the story of how farming has evolved across four generations of the Strawson family – from horses in the fields to modern regenerative farming and the diversified rural businesses it is today.
Antony Strawson, fourth generation custodian of Stourton Estates says: “For 100 years, across four generations, the Strawson family have adapted with the land at Stourton. Open Farm Sunday gives us the opportunity to share how farming has changed over the last century, while also giving visitors the chance to enjoy the estate and better understand the important role farming plays in the countryside, wildlife, food production and local communities.”
Entry and parking are free and there is no need to book in advance.
Open Farm Sunday takes place at Stourton Woods, Clays Lane, Baumber, Horncastle, LN9 5NL. More information, activities and visitor details can be found at: https://www.stourtonestates.co.uk/product/events/open-farm-sunday-celebrating-100-years-of-farming-at-stourton/
